FILIAL THERAPY SESSIONS

Filial Therapy is a special kind of play therapy that closely involves parents and carers. In keeping with our service ethics the new Emosi centre will provide transcultural play therapy for local families with children aged 2-12; in time we hope it will become a city-wide service.

Filial Therapy usually lasts between 3—6 months but may last longer with follow up sessions. The therapy is taught to parents and followed through with support from a trained professional and can be provided in various ways to meet the circumstances of the child and parent/carer.

TINY TALKERS' PROGRAMME

We plan to introduce 30 weeks of Intensive Interaction for children with Social Communication Difficulties.

This is a specialised pilot to address the identified needs of local children in the area regarding their personal and social development and integration into the community and the education systems.

These sessions will be led by a Speech and Communications Specialist supported by a Teaching Assistant, using rooms at the Children's Centre.

YUMMIE TUMMIES

The project aims to educate and inform parents about the importance of children eating healthy and being physically active through dance and improving diet, with support.

The UK has the highest rate of childhood obesity in Western Europe, and 1 in 3 children are obese or overweight before their 5th birthday. Children at pre-school age spend many hours in front of the TV, playing on computer games, so this project aims to support activity levels and health for our children from their earliest foundations.
